Dr. Jon Cabiria is a Media Psychologist, who is focused on the intersection of online social networks and human behavior. His prior research explored how marginalized people gained positive benefits as a result of their involvement with virtual social communities and in the transference of those positive effects back into their real world lives. He is currently engaged in research that looks at how psychologists and consultants can utilize online social networks, along with positive psychology assessments and appreciative inquiry processes, to aid organizations and individuals in achieving goals. Jon is also a coach-consultant, assisting organizations and individuals through strengths-based approaches to goal attainment.
Jon is recognized internationally for his many presentations, seminars, and workshops related to the positive benefits of online social communities. Highlights include The Media Psychology Awareness Project presented at the American Psychologists Association (APA); Out of this world: Creative uses of the virtual classroom, at the 6th International Conference on Imagination and Education in Canberra, Australia; and Benefits of virtual worlds for marginalized people, at the LIFT Technology Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, to name a few. Upcoming events include Virtual worlds: Immersive learning strategies for overseas engagements, at the Federal Virtual Worlds Conference in Washington, DC; Positive psychology and executive coaching: Connecting personal values to organizational values, at the 4th European Conference on Positive Psychology in Rijeka, Croatia; and Educational innovation in virtual worlds: A new learning paradigm, at the International Congress on Psychology in Berlin, Germany.
Jon is affiliated with the PA Institute of Technology, where he teaches Human Growth and Development. He has a Ph.D. in Psychology from Fielding Graduate University and an M.S. in Organizational Development from the University of Pennsylvania.
